Our Structure
The National Algerian Centre is a private organization, registered in England (UK) as a Community Interest Company, and is dedicated to building international growth and commerce for UK and Algerian companies. Our Mission & Vision Mission: To promote & facilitate international trade between the United Kingdom and Algeria, to promote the culture of Algeria within the UK and to provide support for expatriates. Global Vision: To be internationally recognized for trade promotion & facilitation, and to be the cultural focus for the Algerian expatriate community around the world. NAC Values • High standards of personal integrity and professional excellence • Mutual respect and teamwork • Creativity and individual initiative Members and Stakeholders NAC members and stakeholders range from large multinationals, to small-to-medium sized companies and include the U.K. & Algerian Government & agencies and NGO’s. These companies face a spectrum of hurdles in the global marketplace, including the lack of readily available information about exporting and foreign market opportunities, strong competition from foreign companies and governments, and difficult market conditions abroad. |
Why the NAC exists
Algeria is the largest and one of the wealthiest countries in Africa. However, outdated perceptions mean that it is sometimes overlooked by UK companies. Politically, Algeria remains relatively stable but the threat of terrorism from nearby countries and opportunistic violence against foreigners makes Algeria a difficult environment to do business. Historical and cultural factors meant that it did not experience large scale social unrest as many of its neighbours did. Algeria’s violent civil war of the 1990s still marks the population and means that Arab-spring style unrest is very unlikely. However the people do put pressure on the government to provide jobs, housing, healthcare and services. The counterpoint is Algeria’s 285 billion $US infrastructure investment programme that creates fantastic opportunities for UK businesses. But to succeed these businesses need support. Market Insights, introductions to key contacts, cultural education for their executives, and more, though, ideally a UK based organisation for ease of communication. The UK has a large expatriate community that have, until now, lacked a focal point for cultural events. If major corporations sometimes struggle to penetrate the Algerian Market, Young up and coming companies have little hope. The NAC runs a selection of programs to support international trade programs especially for the SME’s in the UK seeking to export to Algeria. Vice versa, Algerian business frequently mired in bureaucratic red tape and ineffectual Intellectual property law find it difficult to tackle international markets. |
